Thomas,

I did ask the list admin before posting. Paraphrasing, he said this
is a community and if the community thinks this is unacceptable, they
will let you know. Of course, out right advertisements from service
providers would appear to be out of the scope of the list.

So i am perfectly willing to let this drop if people think this is
off topic, but i have already learned more to think about thanks to
your response: usage patterns and service level required. I am in US.
As a systems engineer i do understand that i want to be near my ITSP
so as to not incur any extra ms on the round trip for the packets,
and that my ITSP is hooked up well to PSTN.

I would guess that usage patterns mean what combination of local/
state/country/international calls and whether business or
residential. Curious that some DID services only cover US48 states --
no Hawaii and Alaska! Or am i misunderstanding?.

As for service level, from quick research i find the following should
be looked into:
1. QoS (resource reservation or resource prioritization)
2. latency (ITU recommends never exceed 150 total trip from speaker
to listener)
3. jitter (timing variations in packet delivery)
4. packet loss (1% loss translates into a voice clip or skip every 3
minutes, 0.25% one every 53 minutes)
5. presence of dial tone
6. time to connection
7. caller ID
8. service outage ratings
9. mean time to repair
10. mean time to respond
11. porting ability! (thanks to [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- no name
provided)

Also, thanks to [EMAIL PROTECTED], i now get the picture that
is is common to have different providers for SIP termination and for
DID service.

Is there more to usage patterns and service level that you or anyone
else like to add?

As for my needs, i do need incoming to allow from anywhere in US and
Canada. What about the world? I actually do need that. Is that hard
to find? As for outgoing, i mostly need local, US and Canada, and to
a much lesser need the whole world. I am in US.

Look forward to more provider ratings and considerations when
choosing ITSPs.

Peace,
Dan
