Vietnam to partner other nations to combat terror, crime

Vietnam will cooperate with other countries both bilaterally and multilaterally
in the fight against terrorism and transnational crimes, a diplomat has said.

Addressing the ASEAN Regional Forums Inter-Sessional Meeting on Counter
Terrorism and Transnational Crime (ISM-CTTC) in Hanoi Tuesday, head of the
Vietnamese delegation, Pham Quang Vinh, said the meeting offers Vietnam the
opportunity to work with other countries to develop an anti-crime network,
strengthen its capacity to fight crime, and access training and technical
facilities.

According to the Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Tran Dai
Quang, terrorism and transnational crimes are a threat to peace, stability and
the development of every individual country as well as the global community.
In particular, hi-tech economic and financial crimes pose a severe threat, he
said, adding ASEAN and its partners need to step up exchange of information and
cooperation to cope with the rise in sophisticated crimes.
The meeting was co-chaired by host Vietnam, the Republic of Korea and
Bangladesh and attended by 27 countries, including the 10 ASEAN members plus
China, Japan, India, Canada, Australia, the US and EU members.
It is the latest in a series of important events hosted by Vietnam in its role
as vice president of ASEAN/ARF this year.
