Without looking at who is right or wrong, the fact shows clearly the differences between Thai and Cambodia. As far as we have known Thailand, Thai people always claim Angkor Wat and Preah Vihear belong to Thailand. At the same time, Cambodians claim as theirs. Despite the agreement and judgement by world court, Thai poeple have always been saying that those temples are theirs. > 2. Preah VihearTemple was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2008 by > UNESCO. Theinscription supposes it to be under the protection of UNESCO. > Despite the acceptance to the UNESCO, Thai people still say that those temples belong to them. > 3. The ParisAgreement of October 23, 1991 guarantees the sovereignty, > independence andterritorial integrity of Cambodia. Eighteen countries, > including Vietnam,Thailand and Laos signed and ratified it. > We can keep saying about sovereignty. If Cambodians claim that those part of land belong to theirs, the dispute continues. Both parties cannot own one piece of land. So who is right and who is wrong. That's what needed to be ironed out. > We believe that thefollowing measures need to be implemented: > > a. Withdrawal of all armed forces from Preah VihearTemple area Do you know who are occupying Preah Vihear temple today? > b. Establishment of a UN buffer zone in the disputed area > c. Full recognition of the Paris Agreement of Octpber23,1991 to > guarantee the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity ofCambodia. > This dispute has nothing to do with Paris Agreement. It is a disputed land. If Cambodians claim it as theirs, then Thai continues to fight. That's where they are today. So a third party fact finding must be created. > We trust that you will useyour personal influence to move Cambodia and > Thailand to bring above measuresin order to terminate the border dispute and > demonstrate respect for thesovereignty of the Khmer Temple Preah Vihear. > Thanks for your attention in thismatter. > Cambodians cannot work with Thailand for peace to resolve that disputed land by claiming the land is theirs already. If they continue to claim it, the negotiation would never occur because Thailand has never accepted it as Cambodians. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Cambodia Discussion (CAMDISC) - www.cambodia.org" group.
