I am not good in Khmer like most of you but I tried to learn as much as I can. Like you said, you have to be willing to learn on your own and also be willing to listen and learn from others. No one can know everything. We all build up our knowledge from previous scholars and teachers. Even exceptional scholars (Savant in French) like Coedès and Champolion, the French who discovered the Rosetta stone that enabled him to decipher the Egyptian hieroglyphs, had to learn it the hard way, through perseverance, patience, and hard work. There are no shortcuts in life. I am so glad to know that there are people like Sotheara in Cambodia. He is now one of the experts in ancient Khmer who is replacing our beloved Long Seam. I am also very happy that Prof. Long Seam had completed his work on ancient Khmer writing with the publication of the ancient Khmer dictionary. He left us with a great legacy. I am very fortunate to have inherited the dictionary from my Khmer teacher Lok Krou Sar peou who is one of Prof. Long Seam's best friend.
