Looks like a good idea, taking one of these and converting it. If you can do it so that you can convert it back anytime you want, then you'd have two great cameras in one.
One idea for ya: Why not do the minimal work possible to the thing to begin with -- just build a new rear standard for it using as much existing hardware as possible. Then see how it goes. Maybe you'd have enough movements with what the current hardware provides. The smaller Toyos have very ample movements, and I would think that between the ones on the rear and the ones on the front that already exist, you'd probably have plenty. Anyway, hope this helps.
