Bert,
I am not sure why I suggested an octagon. it was simply
the first shape that occurred to me. I hope this description
is a clearer than the last.
I misunderstood the original thought. I was mistaken in
the camera being completely open on the inside. My thought
as a sample solution is to build an 8 chamber camera. Tending
to think along logical lines, each chamber would be responsible
for a 45 degree view of the surrounding. Each chamber would be
sealed off by a slideable blackened separator, thinner
being better. This will allow for a limited amount
of cross exposure along the frame joints resulting in a truer
panorama.
The more I think of this the more I wonder about making it.
45 degrees of coverage seems to be ok. But I wonder if 30
would be better? Would it be better to make 8 round images,
that correspond to the scene or force them to be uniquely joined
exposure with hairline marks?
It appears to be an esoteric issue. Would I like it? would
it play havoc with my logical thinking? Ahh but I digress..
It seems that with an open container the mis-mash of images
will result in a kaleidoscopic effect not unlike the jankapoor
mages. What are you after? it may help to define the resolution,
in more acceptable terms. thanks for letting me wander off.
