AFAIK this is the fault of the server admins, not Camino. The server hasn't been set up to recognise .dmg files as binary, so it assumes text/plain as the mime type. Can anyone else confirm that?

It's ALL about MIME typing on the server end. This is an issue going way, way back. Happens with many, many supposedly Mac sites. I used to (politely) send e-mails to the webmaster e-mail explaining MIME typing and what should or shouldn't be done. rarely got a response or some action to correct the problem.
However, there is another fault here. That rests with Apple. It seems the OS uses a MIME table that appears to be editable. BUT, it seems to be only editable from a third party prefpane called "More Internet."

This application seems to duplicate preferences settings that are found in IE. It provides access to Protocol Helpers as well as File Mappings; this makes it "more complete."
