I'm so glad you've been released!

I'm sorry to hear about your father and I hope all goes well. I'm glad you will be
able to be there too.

Take care and keep us updated when you can!

  Subject: [nov02] Update

Hi everyone! I was released from prison on Friday, so I'm now a free woman! Woo
hoo! I learned so much over this last year from the inmates. I will definitely miss
them... and will wonder how they are doing. The prognosis is good for some of the
ladies I worked with, not all, but if I could save just one... (like in Silence of the
Lambs... LOL).

This fall is going to be really nice for me. I'll be writing the last two chapters
of my dissertation and teaching one psychology class at the local college. I'll
finally have time to do some projects around the house I've been wanting to do, as
well as just get some ME time. I don't know if I'm graduating in December or April
yet. It depends on several things.

William got his first hair cut yesterday! Boo hoo! The pics are in the "what's
new" section of our family website
www.bradley-etheridge.com<http://www.bradley-etheridge.com/> . I can't believe what a
big boy he looks like now. I didn't just save one curl... I saved them all. This
morning I've been tying them up with ribbons and making little vellum envelopes for
them. The grandparents are going to think I have lost my mind. My baby is growing
up. He was so good too... just sat there very still and quiet throughout the whole
thing and was such a good boy. Surprised the heck outta me! I took him to a salon on
the south side of town on purpose, though, because I knew it would be full of sweet
southern ladies... William responds well to a sweet southern accent. Now I just have
to work on weaning. Argh.

His vocabulary is exploding. He will at least attempt to say anything, and can now
point to all sorts of objects and name them. His manners are still sharp too. He can
follow directions such as "Go get me a diaper" and "put this in the garbage" and "give
this to daddy". He can also do wooden puzzles. I need to get him some more. So far
he only has the ones with the pictures behind the pieces, but one of the puzzles has
color pieces and only black and white pictures behind them and he can still match them
up right away. We have not bought him a potty yet, but he's becoming more aware of
his pottying. If his diaper is off, he'll purposefully tinkle on the floor (or in the
bath or wherever he is) so that he can amuse himself by watching it come out. It just
cracks him up to no end.

Tomorrow I am driving to North Georgia with William. It turns out my father will be
having surgery on Tuesday. He's got a pretty scary aneurysm. He's never had surgery,
never stayed overnight in a hospital. Amazing for an old alcoholic with heart
problems! All kidding aside, it will be a scary surgery because his heart is so weak
already. But he'll be in good hands and I'm glad I'm going to be there for it. I'm
also glad I'll be able to help Mom to and from the hospital to see him and help her
get settled into their new house. They're moved in but nothing is organized or put
away yet. Roy can't come with me because he has a seminar all week in Orlando. I
bought some new toys for the ride up there to hand him one at a time when he gets
bored. I plan to play his favorite CD's and sing along... and will likely stop
several times. It's a six hour drive, all by myself... wish me luck!

Anyway, that's our update. I can't tell you how relieved I am that this internship
is over. It is really a major accomplishment for me.
