your files - and you can lock your current file associations
so that intruding programs don't mess up your Windows settings.

I. AppLauncher: Control File Associations
==========================================================

Don't you wish you had more control over which application
launches when you double-click on a file? This process is
controlled by what Windows calls a file association. For
instance, when you double-click on a text file with the
".txt" file extension (you can think of file extensions as
representing the type of file), it opens in Notepad. But,
what if you wanted it to open the text file in Microsoft
Word? It's not easy to do. Also, these file associations
can be mangled by programs you download from the Web, which
sometimes force Windows to launch the program of their
choice when you double-click on a certain file type
(digital media players are major offenders in this area).

AppLauncher, our latest premium utility, gives you the
power to control which application launches when you double-
click on a file, by letting you easily change your file
associations in Windows. It also has the ability to lock
down these settings in Windows, thereby preventing any other
programs from messing up your preferences. Welcome back to
the driver's seat.

If you download AppLauncher, whether you like it or not, come
back to the article and click on "Rate it Yourself" (just
underneath the "Download Now" link). Let everyone know what
you think.

II. Web Historian: Save & Share Web Pages
==========================================================

Finding what you're looking for on the World Wide Web is
tough, finding it again if you didn't save it, can be even
tougher-even impossible. The content on some Web sites is
temporary, at best. The situation is worse on some pages,
where online shopping receipts generated specifically for
your browser session disappear into oblivion when you shut
down your PC. So how do you save important online information
before it's gone?

Web Historian, our premium utility for July, to the rescue. It
gives you the power to save online information easily so that
it's within reach whenever you need it.

III. Recent Updates, Bug-Fixes and Investigations
==========================================================

I'm going to do something a little different this week here,
and that is, ask you a question about what we should
update. Are you a fan of one or more of our older utilities?
If so, would you like to see it updated with new functionality?
Drop into the discussion I just started, and let me know.
We're looking to update one or more utilities for the coming
year - let me know which one you'd like to see at the top
of that list.

Discuss here:
