Welcome to today's edition of Inside PCMag.com. With so many
DVD+/- drives coming as standard equipment on PCs, we're
wondering if you're putting those drives to good use. Are you
editing and burning video? If so, what do you use, and how
successful are you? Do all of your DVDs play on all of your
set-top players? How do you feel about the video quality?
Is it excellent, or just good enough? Let's talk DVD
authoring in the forums.

and IT readiness. The good news is that businesses don't
have to worry anymore. Manufacturers and standards bodies
are now addressing all of these concerns. We have the full
outline to show you and your company how to go wireless

Dvorak Online: A Longhorn Alternative

Microsoft's been making rather depressing announcements
about its forthcoming OS, most of them having to do with
lopping off major pieces of functionality. Columnist John
C. Dvorak knows why Microsoft is doing this and has a
suggestion for making Longhorn the OS we all want it to
be, while still maintaining XP and DOS compatibility for
all. Sounds fantastic and impossible, but Dvorak offers a
technical outline and even a new OS name. Read, learn, and
comment in the forums.

Review: Phone Packs Features, Lacks Punch

Here's a mobile-phone feature list to make your mouth water:
1.2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, external color display,
speaker-independent voice recognition, and MP3 player. Too
bad all that doesn't mean the Motorola V710 adds up to a
winning phone. It's a decent one, but perhaps not exactly
the phone Verizon users have been waiting for. Read our
full review for more details.

Opinion: The Lowdown on Music Downloads

You've heard the pitches from Real, iTunes, and now MSN,
but what's the reality of searching for and buying your
favorite tunes on some of the biggest and newest music
download services? PC Magazine editor-in-chief Michael J.
Miller has taken a little survey of the field. You may be
surprised at what he found.

News: LEDs Light Up LCD TVs

Sony's new Qualia LCD TVs are the first to use LEDs
(light-emitting diodes) instead of cathode fluorescent
lamps (CCFLs) for backlights. This isn't just gee-whiz
technology. LEDs promise more brilliant colors and are less
damaging to the environment than the standard tubes. Get
more details on what's likely to become a monitor trend in
our analysis.

and college libraries. Not sure what questions to ask? Not a
problem. We have the short list. Print it out and take it
with you on your next visit to the school. It could help
