IP services profitability still in doubt, 09/20/04

Are IP services profitable yet? That's the big question hounding 
providers of VPN, VoIP and other packet-based offerings, but 
answers are hard to find. Carriers are emphasizing top-line 
numbers, showing that IP service revenue is growing even as 
frame relay, ATM and other legacy services revenue flattens. 
Others worry that carriers continue to spend billions of dollars 
on IP network infrastructure even as prices for IP business data 
services, such as VoIP and VPNs, plummet.
