How popular is Linux becoming in the consumer marketplace? If you use Linux and also shop on-line, searching for Linux-based products can provide some surprising results.

A search at Circuit City.com found three matches, while Best Buy had 33 matches, including nearly 30 in the computers section — although, to be honest not all products were computers.

A quick trip to Wally World found 313 matches! But many of the products are books. Also, it looks like the Evil Empire has managed to weasel its way in on the low-end PC lineup, but if you hurry you can get a Linux-based Linare PC for $248.

On-line shopping for Linux products sure beats a weekend scavenger hunt across the county in the family mini van, but the fact is that the keyword “Linux” is showing up more and more in product descriptions. And that’s good for consumers.
