TODAY'S eTIP(TM): Mulled Red Wine
Mulled red wine is wonderfully spicy way to serve inexpensive
wine, whether you're entertaining a crowd or spending a quiet
evening at home with someone special. You may or may not sweeten
the wine with sugar. It's delicious either way.
Mulled Red Wine
Yield: 4 to 6 servings
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: About 15 minutes
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup sugar (optional)
8 whole cloves or allspice berries or 4 of each
1 cinnamon stick
1 thinly sliced orange or lemon
1 bottle fruity dry red wine such as Merlot, Zinfandel, or
Beaujolais
1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, sugar,
cloves or allspice, cinnamon stick, and orange or lemon.
Heat until the sugar dissolves.
2. Add a bottle of dry red wine. Simmer until hot (do not
boil!), about 10 to 15 minutes, and serve.
Per serving: Calories 92 (From Fat 1); Fat 0g (Saturated 0g);
Cholesterol 0mg; Sodium 6mg; Carbohydrate 4g (Dietary Fiber 1g);
Protein 0g.
