Do a lot of homework on this.

Specifically when it comes to your main bolt caps on the crankshaft (2 bolt 
vs. 4 bolt)

I don't own 454's - I've got  460's - but I think you'll find that there are 
so many applications and so many versions of 454's over the years - that if 
you want to spend your money wisely - don't just go by the cubic inches. 
Get to know identification numbers - and the updates by year - and the 
specific applications.
Car vs. Truck vs. Marine. vs. Industrial etc.
