How a true believer in the Christ defined by the scripture can buy into what Jesus, the prophets and apostles said and also what these secular thugs say is beyond me. In addition to liberalism's obvious and odious pro-holocaust-like abortion stance, its anti-biblical view of marriage, its scripture-slamming aggressive secularism, and its feckless view of our nation's defense, liberalism completely clashes with the Christian worldview. Secular liberalism's aggressive desire to eradicate Christians' rights should cause Christians to be concerned. The Democrat Party's liberalism has degenerated over the last 40-50 years in regard to its view of Christianity and Christian rights. This party, which formerly embraced and protected our nation's great Christian heritage and teachings, no longer does so. Thus, today the Christian is between a rock and a hard place: he can either be a Christian or a liberal, but he cannot be both." --Doug Giles ______----********O********----______ POLITICAL FUTURES A message from President George W. Bush: Tomorrow, Americans will choose who will lead our country during a time of war and economic opportunity. And the choice on Tuesday comes down to a few issues of great consequence. The first choice is the most important, because all our progress depends on our safety. Since September the 11th, 2001, I have led a relentless campaign against the terrorists. We have strengthened homeland security. We removed terror regimes in Afghanistan and Iraq. We are on the offensive around the world, because the best way to prevent future attacks is to go after the enemy. My opponent has a different view. Senator Kerry says September the 11th didn't change him much, and his policies make that clear. He says the war on terror is "primarily an intelligence and law enforcement operation." He has proposed what he calls a "global test" that would give foreign governments a veto over American security decisions. And when our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq needed funding for body armor and bullets, Senator Kerry voted against it. The direction of the war on terror is at stake in the election of 2004. And when you go to the polls on Tuesday, remember this: I will do whatever it takes to defend America and prevail in the war on terror, and I will always support the men and women who do the fighting. The second choice in this election concerns your family budget. As a candidate, I pledged to lower taxes for families, and I have kept my word. We doubled the child tax credit, reduced the marriage penalty, and dropped the lowest tax bracket to 10 percent. Now working families keep more of their paychecks, and America's economy is growing faster than any other among major industrialized nations. My opponent voted against all our tax relief for working families. His votes would have squeezed about $2,000 more in taxes from the average middle-class family. Now Senator Kerry is promising to increase federal spending by more than $2.2 trillion. And to pay for all that new spending, he would have to raise taxes on American families. I will keep your taxes low because I know it's not the government's money, it's your family's money. The third choice in this election involves your quality of life. As President, I signed historic education reforms to bring high standards to the classroom and make schools accountable to parents, and our children are making progress in reading and math. We've strengthened Medicare, created health savings accounts, and expanded community health centers to help more Americans get health care. I'm proposing a series of practical reforms to make health care more affordable and accessible by expanding health savings accounts, allowing association health plans, and protecting patients and doctors from junk and frivolous lawsuits. My opponent has a different approach. Senator Kerry voted for the No Child Left Behind Act, but he has pledged to weaken the accountability standards. He's voted 10 times against medical liability reform. And now, he's proposing a big-government health care plan that would do nothing about rising health costs, and would cause millions of Americans to lose their private health insurance and end up on government programs. Finally, this election presents a choice on the values that keep our families strong. I believe marriage is a sacred commitment, and I will always defend it. I will continue to appoint judges who strictly interpret the law. And I will keep working to move this good-hearted nation toward a culture of life. On these issues, my opponent and I are miles apart. Senator Kerry was part of an out-of-the-mainstream minority that voted against the Defense of Marriage Act. He believes there ought to be a liberal litmus test for judicial appointments. He voted against banning the brutal practice of partial birth abortion. I believe that reasonable people can find common ground on difficult issues, and I will continue reaching out and bringing Americans together to protect our deepest-held values. All of these choices make this one of the most important elections in our history. These past four years, you have seen how I do my job. Even when you might not agree with me, you know where I stand, what I believe, and what I intend to do. Soon, the decision will be in your hands. And however you decide, I urge you to get out and vote on Tuesday. ______----********O********----______ FAMILY "We have a responsibility to the men and women who won our freedoms to maintain those freedoms and to pass them to our children and grandchildren. The most basic way that we maintain these freedoms that we enjoy is to vote for those who share our values. The outcome of this election will impact this nation for generations." --Tony Perkins ______----********O********----______ CULTURE "Voting is not a matter of personal expression but a serious responsibility for choosing what course this country will take in the years -- and decades -- ahead. Seldom have two presidential candidates presented more starkly contrasting visions of what course to take, both internationally and domestically. But this election is not about John Kerry or George Bush or even about the next four years. It is about a country at a crossroads and closely divided as to which road to take -- roads from which there may be no turning back for many years. We are talking about our future and the future of our children and grandchildren. If you don't have the time or the inclination to give that the serious attention it deserves, then it is irresponsible to vote on the basis of watching a couple of men exhibiting their debating skills or watching TV anchor men spin the news to suit their politics -- or watching the shouting matches between spinmeisters on what are charitably called 'discussion' programs." --Thomas Sowell ______----********O********----______ LIBERTY "I wouldn't call it fascism exactly, but a political system nominally controlled by an irresponsible, dumbed down electorate who are manipulated by dishonest, cynical, controlled mass media that dispense the propaganda of a corrupt political establishment can hardly be described as democracy either." --Edward Zehr ______----********O********----______ THE GIPPER "The orderly transfer of authority as called for in the Constitution routinely takes place as it has for almost two centuries and few of us stop to think how unique we really are. In the eyes of many in the world, this every-4-year ceremony we accept as normal is nothing less than a miracle. ...[W]e are a united people pledged to maintaining a political system which guarantees individual liberty to a greater degree than any other...." --Ronald Reagan ______----********O********----______ OPINION IN BRIEF "I know few people enthused about John Kerry. His record is undistinguished, and where it stands out, mainly regrettable. He intuitively believes that if a problem exists, it is the government's job to fix it. He has far too much faith in international institutions, like the corrupt and feckless United Nations, in the tasks of global management. He got the Cold War wrong. He got the first Gulf War wrong. His campaign's constant and excruciating repositioning on the war against Saddam have been disconcerting, to say the least. I completely understand those who look at this man's record and deduce that he is simply unfit to fight a war for our survival. They have an important point -- about what we know historically of his character and his judgment when this country has faced dire enemies. His scars from the Vietnam War lasted too long and have gone too deep to believe that he has clearly overcome the syndrome that fears American power rather than understands how to wield it for good." --Andrew Sullivan, The New Republic, endorsing John Kerry "I can't remember ever voting for anybody I disliked as much as I do John Kerry, at least not for president, but vote for him I will. I didn't have much use for Al Gore either, but I don't remember any real sense of hostility before punching the hole next to his name.... I can't persuade anybody to vote for a candidate for whom I can muster so little enthusiasm, but there must be an awful lot of people out there who are going to cast votes next week for Kerry who are, like me, discouraged by the prospect and needing one of those you-are-not-alone talks." --Mark Brown, Chicago Sun-Times, endorsing John Kerry "I remain totally unimpressed by John Kerry. Outside of his opposition to the death penalty, I've never seen him demonstrate any real political courage. His baby steps in the direction of reform liberalism during the 1990s were all followed by hasty retreats. His Senate vote against the 1991 Gulf War demonstrates an instinctive aversion to the use of American force, even when it's clearly justified. Kerry's major policy proposals in this campaign range from implausible to ill-conceived. He has no real idea what to do differently in Iraq. His health-care plan costs too much to be practical and conflicts with his commitment to reducing the deficit. At a personal level, he strikes me as the kind of windbag that can only emerge when a naturally pompous and self-regarding person marinates for two decades inside the U.S. Senate. If elected, Kerry would probably be a mediocre, unloved president on the order of Jimmy Carter." --Jacob Weisberg, Slate, endorsing John Kerry ______----********O********----______ GOVERNMENT "Before the election of local, state or federal legislators be sure to find out where they stand on the issue of education. For the Federal government to be involved in education at all is in blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution. Don't fall for socialist con words like 'choice' or 'accountability' in education. In socialist doublespeak 'choice' means you might be permitted to choose among several different government schools in your area (all of which are promoting the same socialist programs). 'Accountability' means accountable to government, not to parents. Make it known in no uncertain terms that you want to take back the educational system that made America the greatest nation on earth --FREEDOM in education!" --Debbie O'Hara ______----********O********----______ BUSH CAMPAIGN JOURNAL "President Bush's chances for re-election may be in danger because disgruntled Republicans, more, by the way, than I have seen in previous elections, are threatening either to vote for John Kerry or, more likely, not vote at all. I understand their disgruntlement because I share many of their concerns. However, I made up my mind some time ago that despite my problems with many of the president's policies and actions my only choice is to vote for him because Kerry is infinitely worse. ... If the president is re-elected, and I think he will be, he needs to be reminded that many Republicans who voted for him did so reluctantly; in no way were they giving him a mandate. And for their part disgruntled Republicans have to do more than just sit around and complain. They will need continually to remind him of what they expect and why they are unhappy on an ongoing basis via letters, faxes, emails, phone calls, letters to editors and public criticism. The president cannot be allowed to take it for granted that Republicans who voted for him approve of all he has done or sets out to do. It is not in either his best interests or the nation's. Republicans cannot afford to sit on their hands on Nov. 2 because the fate of the nation is at stake. And if they sit on their hands after Nov. 2 and fail to hold the president accountable on issues that they think are important they will have only themselves to blame when he goes off on tangents that are counterproductive or not in the best interests of the nation, the people and the party." --Lyn Nofziger ______----********O********----______ JFK DEMO-LITION DERBY "The world may or may not be safer today because of what Bush has done, but who cares? The aim is to make the world safer tomorrow. George W. Bush has certainly made his share of mistakes conducting the war on terrorism, but he understands that it's a war that needs to be fought. It's hard to shake the impression that so many 'pro-war' writers want to punish George W. Bush for his mistakes by voting for Kerry. How childish. The choice isn't between punishing Bush or rewarding him: It's between electing a president who understands the fight we're in and one who denies we even need to be in one. Despite Kerry's newfound convictions about the need to 'destroy' and 'kill' terrorists, there's little reason to believe he understands what this war is about. Bush says Kerry has a 'September 10th' worldview. He's right, of course. Kerry himself admits that he has a September 10th worldview. That would be fine, if Kerry's worldview on September 10th wasn't so awful. Which brings me to my second point. Kerry can't let go of his view that terrorism is a law-enforcement problem, that it can be solved with 'good diplomacy' and arduous summits in posh resorts. In his megalomania he believes his book described the problem we face today when it barely described the problems of yesterday. He insists that his service in Vietnam -- Vietnam! -- is still the best way to judge how he would conduct the war on terror, even though his two decades of public service indicate at every turn that his service as a Vietnam protester is a better indicator of his judgment and values." --Jonah Goldberg ______----********O********----______ RE: THE LEFT "Senator Kerry is committed to the notion that terrorism can be contained by multi-lateral police actions. When he suggested that terrorism could be reduced to a nuisance level like gambling, organized crime, and prostitution he meant it. It sounded so dreadful that his allies in the media accused the Bush campaign of mischaracterizing what Kerry meant. Maybe so, but even if you don't believe he was equating terrorism with prostitution, it was a window into how he believes terrorism should be dealt with. What Senator Kerry is talking about is nothing short of appeasement. He believes, as do many of his supporters here and abroad, that if President Bush would just have stopped the war on terror after cleaning the Taliban out of Afghanistan, and focused all the nation's attention on finding Osama bin Laden all would be well. The French and the Germans certainly agree with him. They wanted to appease Saddam -- if he had remained in power they would STILL be appeasing Saddam -- by allowing the sanctions against him to lapse so they could land a desert-ful of the Iraqi oil action. So what if Saddam had developed the technology to build weapons of mass destruction and had allowed those weapons to be delivered by al-Qa'ida. It's a tough world out there. If al-Qa'ida bombs some trains in Madrid, so be it, it was Spain's fault for providing troops. If the Spanish had appeased al-Qa'ida like the leaders of Old Europe did, they would have been spared, too. Kerry truly believes that the only allies who matter are the French and the Germans. ... The French and German governments, for their part, have publicly stated that Kerry is on some form of medication if he believes they intend to provide troops to do anything other than strut around Western Europe looking impressive to, and impressively at, each other while they sit safely within their own borders. The tape that Osama bin Laden released the other day was specifically designed to play into Kerry's belief system: Stop attacking us and we will stop attacking you. Appease us and you will be safe. Decades ago the Saudis tried appeasement by making a pact with the devil -- the bad guys could operate FROM Saudi Arabia so long as they didn't operate IN Saudi Arabia. The Saudis have learned what history always teaches us: Those whom you would attempt to appease, don't stay appeased. As the old saying goes: You can rent peace through appeasement, but you can't buy it. And, if that's not an old saying, it should be." --Rich Galen ______----********O********----______ FOR THE RECORD "According to polls taken this year, nearly 65 percent of the public doesn't know that Congress has banned partial-birth abortion. Seventy percent is unaware that a massive drug benefit has been added to Medicare. At least 58 percent say they have heard 'nothing' or 'not much' about the Patriot Act, notwithstanding the enormous amount of coverage the controversial law has drawn. This is not a new problem. As Cold War tensions bristled in 1964, only 38 percent of the public knew that the Soviet Union was not a member of NATO. In 1970, only 24 percent could identify the secretary of state. In 1996, The Washington Post reported that 67 percent of Americans couldn't name their congressman and 94 percent had no idea that William Rehnquist was the chief justice of the United States. Only 26 percent knew that senators serve six-year terms and 73 percent didn't know that Medicare costs more than foreign aid. Gallup found in January 2000 that while 66 percent of the public could name the host of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' only 6 percent knew the name of the speaker of the House. Last year, a Polling Company survey found that 58 percent of Americans could not name a single federal Cabinet department. ... With so many Americans so clueless when it comes to government and public affairs, is it any wonder that political campaigns are so shrill and shallow?" --Jeff Jacoby ______----********O********----______ SELECT READER COMMENTS (Our servers automatically delete "Reply" messages to this email. "Never were truer words spoken than these in Patriot No. 04-43: 'As Kerry's use of the war for political fodder has increased in tenor, so too has the spirit of our Jihadi enemies. As noted recently by Mohammad Amin Bashar, a professor at Baghdad's Islamic University, "If the U.S. Army suffered numerous humiliating losses, Kerry would emerge as the superman of the American people." Abu Jalal, an Iraqi resistance leader, added, "American elections and Iraq are linked tightly together. We've got to work to change the election, and we've done so. With our strikes, we've dragged Bush into the mud." The net effect can certainly be felt in terms of increased numbers of American and Allied casualties. Those casualties equal more votes for John Kerry. This was, and remains, the unavoidable consequence of Kerry's reckless campaign rhetoric. The blood of those American Patriots (like the blood of his "brothers" in Vietnam, after he used that war as fodder for his 1972 congressional campaign), is on John Kerry's hands. To be sure, this is the harshest of all condemnations. But it is also the truth. Both Kerry and Edwards know the consequences of their actions. Fact is, they think the lives of American military personnel on the warfront with Jihadistan are second-rate to their political ambitions. He should be held accountable.' Indeed he should!" --Albany, New York "In your 04-43 Digest, 'Judicial Benchmarks,' regarding potential Federal Court nominees, President Bush was quoted as saying: 'We've got plenty of lawmakers in Washington, DC,' the President said during the final debate with Kerry. 'Legislators make law; judges interpret the Constitution. ... No litmus test except for how they interpret the Constitution.' WRONG! That's what our courts are doing today -- 'interpreting' the Constitution. They are not to interpret the Constitution. They are to interpret the constitutionality of laws that Congress passes when there is a legal challenge to such law(s). Just another reminder of how far 'out there' both major parties are to the founding documents of this great country." --Tallahassee, Florida Editor's Reply: WRONG! President Bush has ALWAYS been committed to nominating "strict constitutional constructionists." "You noted: 'When measured by circulation, Kerry's endorsements reach a combined 17.5 million subscribers. Bush's endorsements reach 11.5 million readers,' and then you added: 'Just in case there is any doubt, The Federalist Patriot unequivocally endorses the re-election of President George W. Bush.' So the President's 'circulation endorsements' now outnumber Kerry's by 2 to 1, or more?" --Omaha, Nebraska Editor's Reply: We are working on it! "I was troubled by Teresa Heinz's apology to Laura Bush. Specifically when she said, 'There is no more important job than teaching "OUR" children.' That's her socialist vision for America. Keep on talking Teresa." --Solomon's Island, Maryland (Yes, there are conservatives in Maryland.) Editor's Reply: But it takes a village.... ______----********O********----______ THE LAST WORD "Kerry's supporters are reaching out to blacks by demanding that black cabdrivers in New York City who support Bush be fined and suspended. When taxi driver Etzer Jerome told his sensitive Upper West Side passenger he had voted for Bush, she demanded that he pull over and let her out, yelling at him: 'How can a black man vote for Bush?' and 'I'm going to f--- you!' She then filed a complaint against Jerome with the Taxi and Limousine Commission alleging that Jerome had 'verbally harassed her.' He was fined $500 and given a three-week suspension. On the bright side, the Democrats offer black voters loads and loads of meaningless abstractions that will have absolutely no effect on their lives. 'Jobs,' for example. (Just not any of the important jobs in a Kerry administration.) Democrats' extravagant claims about creating 'jobs' are as credible as their claims that they will allow the wheelchair-bound to walk. Among the jobs that are currently not available to Americans are these being performed in China under a free-trade bill voted for by John Kerry.
