I started sailing in 1980 on a 12 foot polyethelene car top boat called a Topper. I immediately bought a Hobie 16 after a young kid on one passed by me like I was not moving. Yesterday, 24 years of saling later, I entered my first race. I've raced on yachts and have even raced on a Viva 27 catamaran, but it was not until last year that I ever crewed a race on a beachcat. (Viva 27 excepted) Yesterday I entered an inverted start race that had many different kinds of boats in it. Buzz crewed for me on my Mystere 6.0 and Alan Thompson crewed on John Schwartz's Nacra 5.8.. As usual in the Cabrillo Beach area, Chris Scherba was there with his Tornado. I am still waiting for final results, but it appears that not one single boat on the water beat me!
