For some reason or another, I never used a ValidationSummary control for
my asp.net pages before. Typically I just make the individual validators
and let them display their text right where they're located on the page.
Today, I tried using the ValidationSummary control and have noticed a
rather annoying behavior. If the page does not validate correctly when a
ValidationSummary control is on the page, the page scrolls to the top.
So, if the summary is at the bottom of the page and the page is invalid,
the screen jumps to the top, and the user would have to scroll all the
way back to the bottom to see what the errors are. Pretty stupid.
Digging into Microsoft's WebUIValidation.js file, I noticed that the
ValidationSummaryOnSubmit method is doing a "window.scrollTo(0,0);" when
it's done. Commenting this out would correct the behavior, but do any of
you know of a less-invasive way of doing this (i.e. - not messing with
MS's files)?
