GOLDEN EAGLES TITLE DREAM DIES IN SHOCKING UPSET
In a matter of mere seconds, the Naples High football sideline went from
jubilation to a sea of stunned disbelief. For in those seconds the Golden
Eagles season and their dreams of winning another Class 5A state
championship came to an unexpected end. Naples coach Bill Kramer said it
ended because the Eagles did not play their best game when they needed to.

PORTABLES REMAIN A FACT OF LIFE DESPITE SIX NEW SCHOOLS
As part of its $2.8 million in renovations, Lake Park Elementary acquired a new
wing with eight new classrooms to handle students and programs. And this is a
school in a stable, older Naples neighborhood, where student enrollment had
declined for three years. Then suddenly, for no reason officials can identify,
student enrollment unexpectedly rose this year.

NAPLES BAY GROUP WANTS FUNDS FOR EDUCATION EFFORTS
More money to teach people how to be better stewards of Naples Bay topped a
wish list of 2005 funding requests that bay boosters compiled Friday. The list
will go to the South Florida Water Management District, which will carry
funding requests for Naples Bay restoration to the state Legislature next
spring. The legislative session is scheduled to start March 8.

BUILDERS TALK ANNEXATION VS. INCORPORATION FOR ESTERO
Don Eslick and Neal Noethlich received a consensus building award from the
Florida Planning and Zoning Association on Friday. But their biggest consensus
building challenge is still well in front of them. In a little more than a
month, a moratorium that held back Bonita Springs from annexing any part of
Estero will end. Many Estero residents are concerned it will be open season for
Bonita officials to poach off valuable pieces of real estate and, in the
process, take away large chunks of what would be Esteros tax base should it
ever decide to incorporate.

IN PERSPECTIVE:
MOLLY IVINS: HOW CAN WE FORGET ASHCROFTS GOLDEN MOMENTS?
Awwww, Ashcroft! My man. The one I liked best of the whole Cabinet, the most
consistently entertaining, the most the most deliciously inept, the most
amazingly wrong-headed. Ashcroft, my personal Bush administration icon. And
besides, hes so sexy. How can we forget the golden moments? The day he covered
up the nekkid tit on a statue of the Spirit of Justice in the Justice
Department headquarters because we cant have that kind of thing.

HURRICANE RECOVERY GIVES FLORIDA EXTRA MILLIONS IN TAX REVENUE
A booming housing market and the rebuilding needed from four hurricanes are
expected to boost state tax dollars by $1.6 billion more this year than first
thought, state economists said Friday. The stronger-than-anticipated recovery
and the rebuilding-induced spending is expected to continue into next year,
boosting tax collections by an additional $1.4 billion into 2006, according to
the revised state tax revenue estimate.

IN NEAPOLITAN:
THE PORSCHE OF TRICYCLES
Citizens, beware: a tricycle thief is on the loose. This mysterious bandit
isnt after just any three-wheeler but the Kettler, a luxury trike that has
become a sort of status symbol for (parents of) the preschool set. The Kettler
is a boldly colored toddler transport that costs, not including options, more
than three times what typical tricycles run.
