Looking For A Better Health Plan That Puts Your Needs First?

This past week Stephen Barr, writing for the Washington Post
Federal Diary column, discussed Federal employee health plans
highlighted by the Consumers' Checkbook 2005 guide to the FEHB
(www.guidetohealthplans.org). This highly regarded guide had
this to say about the Consumer-driven Option available through
the American Postal Workers Union (APWU):

***********************************************************
"For a General Schedule employee who is single and younger
than 55, Checkbook's ratings identify several plans as good
buys. Nationally, they include Blue Cross and Blue Shield's
basic option, the American Postal Workers Union
consumer-driven option, the GEHA high-deductible plan and
the Blue Cross standard option."

Now in its third year as a health plan choice for Federal
employees, the American Postal Workers Union Consumer-driven
Option features:

* A Personal Care Account (PCA) funded by APWU Health Plan,
but yours to control. Benefit dollars in this account cover
the first $1200 (single) or $2400 (family) of healthcare
expenses at 100%. Funds remaining at year's end roll over
to the next year, allowing members to save for the future.

* Comprehensive health coverage takes effect once the annual
deductible is met. Members are responsible for this
out-of-pocket amount only if PCA funds are exhausted.
This amount is $600 for single and $1200 for an entire
family. The health coverage then covers 90% of in-network
medical costs (70% out of network). Coverage becomes 100%
in-network if the annual out-of-pocket maximum is $4,500
is reached.

* A portion of the Personal Care Account -- up to $400
(single) and $800 (family) may also be used to cover vision
and dental expenses each year

* Low bi-weekly premiums of $18.40 (single) or $42.85 (family)
for Postal employees or $40.89 (single) or $95.23 (family)
for Non-Postal employees

* A nationwide network with over 450,000 providers

* Preventive care covered at 100% with network providers

* No office, drug or hospital co-payments

* No referrals required for specialists

* No upfront deductible. No deductible for hospital stays

* Extensive online and phone resources available 24hrs/day,
7 days/week, including access to health Coaches, Pharmacists
and an award winning member website
