Title: 3421 Users Surveyed: Is XP Service Pack 2 safe to install?
Category: Windows
by Dennis Faas, infopackets editor

Gazette Reader 'Dak59' writes:

" Dear Dennis,

I've read quite a few different things about Windows XP Service Pack 2
(SP2), but some of the comments I read are varying. Is it safe to install?
Would you advise to download SP2, or not? "

My response:

I would recommend installing SP2, as it offers many new security features
that are not otherwise available as a "patch" or "hot fix" using the
Windows Update web site.

I am not alone in this opinion, as they are countless reputable web sites
that are promoting the usefulness of SP2 (including: updateXP.com,
winSuperSite.com, zdNet.co.uk, and more). However, it is critical that you
go through the necessary precautions before applying SP2 to your computer,
as it may result in a failed installation (more info about that further
down).

> Streamline Windows XP with a single click!

------------------------------------------------------------

Just as dust accumulates on something new and shiny over time, unnecessary
data and "leftover files" gradually take up space on every Windows machine.
As the garbage collects, it clogs the system and performance begins to
deteriorate.

Like a professional cleaner, the Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum Suite knows
exactly what kind of dirt to look for, where to find it, and how to get rid
of it efficiently.

So, how can WinOptimizer streamline your PC? Answer:

> Have you ever had a program that just won't uninstall?

------------------------------------------------------------

Nowadays most uninstallers do the absolute minimum required to remove an
application completely from your system.

Subsequently, files which should have been removed end up scattered
throughout the system, along with hundreds of inactive entries in the
System Registry.

So, what can you do to prevent this? Answer:
