Day 23 - Sunday 16th July 2006

We cleaned out the oil, and ran the engine to see if we could see any spots
appearing on the floor, but nothing seen. We backed up to the first bridge
on the Hatherton arm, and had a look around. The second lock still looks in
a bad state, as well as the canal above it. We still didn't see any oil in
the bilge, so put the engine cover back on, and continued down the canal. We
had a good run, and after passing Midland Chandlers, Dad wanted to stop to
wait for them to open in the morning, but there were no good moorings. We
continued down to Acton Trussell, where Dad pulled in just after bridge 93.

We had another look at the time engine, and found a small pool of oil under
the dipstick. On closer inspection it looked like oil was escaping where the
tube enters the sump. The dipstick tube just bolts to the engine, with an O
ring to seal it. Dad put some sealant on it and replaced it. We'll have to
see how it goes.
