Abingdon to Shillingford

Mike, Wendy, cats Tilly, & Mandy

We woke up late and then lazed over some good books. We saw the Millins on
"Albion" go past while we were eating a late breakfast. It was quite a grey
day. We set off at 13:11, at first only as far as the boatyard the other
side of the bridge, where we stopped for a pump-out because the warning
light of the loo-tank had come on. Continuing from there, we crossed with
Andy Gleeson on "Wyrd". We stopped for the day before Shillingford bridge,
where at 16:25 we found a decent mooring a few yards upstream from where we
moored on the outward leg of the voyage. It looked good territory for the
cats.

The cats had good hunting in the night and we found several corpses of their
prey on the cabin floor. But when we got up, rather late, first one and
then the other went out every time I moved towards the cat-flap to close it.
So we spent the day where we were and had a lazy day reading.

The mobile signal here was pretty feeble, so I couldn't deal properly with
my e-mails or up-load any web pages.

Shillingford to Goring

Mike, Wendy, cats Tilly & Mandy

The cats were in when we got up, and didn't rush to the cat-flap when I
approached it, so I was able to close it. But nevertheless we had a lazy
breakfast and spent a lot of time over our books. We discussed whether to
spend another lazy day at these moorings, as we'd got a lot of time in hand
before we needed to be anywhere, but decided that we probably needed to take
on water somewhere that day, so eventually set off at 12:10.

At the head of Cleve lock we stopped for water, and had to queue for it. At
Goring Lock we had quite a wait, as the lock-keeper knew of a couple of
boats a longish way behind us and wanted to fit them into the lock to
conserve water.

We moored at 15:48, 3 abreast on the EA 24-hour moorings below Goring lock.
We were immediately outboard of David Robson on "Nile", who we knew from
many years ago, when we had the original "Felis Catus" and he and his
then-wife had "Ship of Fools". For two or three years around 1980 the two
boats moored together at Little Venice. Wendy climbed over the other two
boats to go to the rubbish point and do a little shopping. I was happy to
get a better signal for internet access (as long as I had the lap-top in the
saloon rather than the office).
