This reminds me of a tale I heard at the National, about some people 
with a new long Syotter, which jammed on trying to get into Hurleston 
bottom lock. They rang the company and said "You told us this boat was 
6'10" wide, so how come it's stuck?"

"Ah, the *hull* is 6"10", but the full length rubber rubbing strake is 
on top of that"

"So how are we supposed to get up the Llangollen?"
