Well, I'm "on". On the advise of Ken Kroeker, I splashed out on a Sony
Ericsson K510i at £79.95 from the Phones 4u store in Hanley (in the big
shopping centre there). After calling Customer Services to enable the GPRS,
I was down 25p, and was told it would come on automatically within 24 hours
  anyway (by default).

I was going to wait until the next day to try it, but accidently pressed the
Orange World icon, and it connected. Later I presumed it was via GSM, but
after changing the settings to use GPRS it still worked so I set it up on
the computer. I used the supplied Sony software to setup the connection, but
it created a new Data connection profile, without the right settings. To
select the new profile it put 4# on the end of the number, but I changed it
to 3#, and it worked like a dream.

I'm currently using the supplied USB lead for data, but I notice the phone
also comes with IR, and Bluetooth.

  Thanks for everyone help.

  Mike

  nb. Wellconnected
