Having attended this meeting yesterday I feel some comments are appropiate. There is little question over the guilt of DEFRA and its representitives, despite there excuses they remained the most damned sould in the building! However, what did strongly come through was that all parties present apart from DEFRA were in support of BW in its present plight. It is essential that during the forthcoming "Blockades" an demos that we all focus on the one single subject that matters, the DEFRA cuts and ways to eradicate them. Previous issues and wrangles with BW should be set aside and the focus of the opposition to come should not be clouded by side issues and past experiences. Despite there being a few "protestors" outside of the meeting yesterday the DEFRA representitives were not challenged and walked straight past the crowd unoticed!! Instead much time was spent wrangling recent past issues with BW staff!Placards displaying "Brutish Waterways" will not help remedy these cuts.
There is now an excellent website that will assist in the fight courtesy of Mike Stevens, on which much information and suggestions can be seen, please visit this at: http://www.savethewaterways.org.uk/ It is WELL worth a look.
