Dear Brian Thank you for your email that you sent to me recently concerning the cutting of the grant to British Waterways and the Early Day Motion 2757 on future investment.
I am sorry that my office had to check your postal address. We follow this procedure because of the large amount of emails that I receive from people living outside the constituency. We are only meant to deal directly with our own constituents. We do this automatically and my staff did not realise that you are my neighbour and editor of The Portal! It does concern me that vital money is being taken away from our waterways. We have been able to see displayed transparently where the money given to it by government grants has gone. As you know I have always supported restoration and investment in our waterways and therefore I will be happy to support the Early Day Motion and will make sure that I add my name to the list when I am next in the Table Office. Thank you for drawing this to my attention. It was good to see you with The Portal. I am sorry that I will be unable to come to the sponsored walk on 29 October. I have been one of the international observers for the first elections in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for over forty years - and I will be there for the second round of the Presidential Election.
