It's probable that he needs one with a pure sine-wave output as the 
electronics on modern w/machines can be sensitive to to a 'dirty' sine-
wave output. If you could get hold of an oscilloscope and display the 
output of the genny you'd probably be surprised how little like a pure 
sine wave it was.
