Subject: [canals-list] Hydropower generated by Canals..
As far as I know little hydro power was generated from canals in the UK
because most are in areas of relatively limited rain (in the Midlands) -
for example the BCN depended to some extent on water pumped out of
coal-mines for drainage purposes. Netherton Tunnel was lit by a turbine
powered by the drop between the Old and New Main Lines.
AFAIK the Caledonian and Crinan Canals weren't exploited for hydropower,
despite their size and location.
