Depends  - do you have any other risk factors for heart disease? 
(Family history, diabetes, high BP, smoking) If so, get it checked at 
least once per year.

The only reliable measure is on a fasting blood sample - anything else 
is pretty meaningless, as it depends what and when you've eaten. Can't 
remember off hand, but the norms may well be different for mean and 
women.
