Waddington's boats are still active on the SY Navigation, there are often boats to be seen transporting and unloading steel coils in the Rotherham area, and I think they carry some other bulk cargoes as well. I assume that the fuel / oil tankers still ply the Aire and Calder as probably do the sand barges near Castleford (though I haven't been in that area for more than a year, so I leave someone with more local knowledge to confirm that).
