This is the way it is almost always done for barges in my experience. Typically, if buying in e.g. Netherlands, the buyer has a survey done, and the vendor has 6 mm overplate patches welded on at the vendor's expense (within the agreed purchase price) over any areas found to be of less than 4 mm (or maybe 3.5 mm) thickness. Same later when you do the periodic (every four or five years) reinsurance survey, except after those you pay for the patches. Adrian Adrian Stott 07956-299966
