Hi Brenda, As I'm scuppered on what I intended to be doing today whilst waiting for a vital phone call (bl**dy government departments) and since Faulkners are of some considerable interest I thought I'd do some digging. Faulkners are of interest because Badger (which is where I ought to be now!) is more Faulkner than Springer. Springer built only the hull, the cabin and interior were added by Faulkners at Cosgrove where they'd moved to from Leighton Buzzard in, I believe, the 1960's The Ancestors of Lawrence Boyd Faulkner of L.B. Faulkner, Leighton Buzzard Lawrence Boyd FAULKNER,(*1) son of Lawrence Boyd FAULKNER (1847?- ) and Mary Ann Brown CHAMBERLAIN (1847- ), was born on 21 July 1876 in the Leighton Buzzard district, Buckinghamshire, England.(*2,3) Lawrence appeared in the census in 1881 in Wing, Buckinghamshire, England.(*4) He appeared in the census in 1891 in Wing.(*5) In 1891 he was a School Monitor!.(*5) Lawrence was, it seems, brought up by his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather in Wing, his parents and younger siblings lived in Walsall. He married Annie Mabel BRISTOWE Q4 1900 in the Bridgnorth district, Shropshire, England.(*6,7) Lawrence and Annie are nowhere to be found in the 1901 census. Either they were out of the country or, more likely, they were simply missed. Possibly, they were on the canals on a boat? It is interesting to note that Lawrence appears to have had no family connections with the canals or boatbuilding. Lawrence and Annie had at least two children, possibly more. Lawrence Boyd Faulkner (at least the fourth Faulkner to bear the name) was born in 1905 in the Leighton Buzzard district (*29) Kenneth Douglas Faulkner was born in 1907 in the Leighton Buzzard district. (*30) He died 16 Feb 1945 on active service in the RAF and is buried in St. Mary's Churchyard, Linslade. He was a Flight Lieutenant (Navigator) and was awarded the D.F.C.(*31) He died on 12 August 1950.(*2) ________________________________________________________________________ _______ Parents Generation ________________________________________________________________________ ________ 2. Lawrence Boyd FAULKNER,(*8) son of Lawrence Boyd FAULKNER and Sarah WILD, was born in about 1847 in Enfield, Middlesex, England.(*8) He appeared in the census in 1851 in Turkey Street, Enfield.(*9) He appeared in the census in 1861 at 154 Upper Windsor Street Aston, Warwickshire, England.(*10) In 1861 he was a Wire Weaver.(*10) He appeared in the census in 1871 at 80 Henry Street, Aston.(*11). In 1871 he was a Stoker.(*11) He married Mary Ann Brown CHAMBERLAIN Q3 1875 in Birmingham (District), Warwickshire, England.(*12,13) He appeared in the census in 1881 in Walsall, Staffordshire, England.(*14) In 1881 he was a Railway Engine Driver.(*14) He appeared in the census in 1891 at 10 Cecil Strtet, Walsall.(*15). In 1891 he was a Railway Engine Driver.(*15) He appeared in the census in 1901 at 10 Cecil Street, Walsall.(*8). In 1901 he was a Railway Engine Driver.(*8) 3. Mary Ann Brown CHAMBERLAIN,(*8,13,16) daughter of Jane CHAMBERLAIN, was born in 1847 in Leighton Buzzard, Buckinghamshire, England.(*8, 16) Her birth was registered Q4 1847 in Leighton Buzzard.(*16) Mary appeared in the census in 1861 in North Street, Leighton Buzzard.(*17). In 1861 she was a Straw Plaiter. She appeared in the census in 1881 in Walsall.(*14) She appeared in the census in 1891 at 10 Cecil Strtet, Walsall.(*15) She appeared in the census in 1901 at 10 Cecil Strtet, Walsall.(*8) Although the 1861 census shows Mary Ann as the daughter of Thomas Chamberlain with an older sister Jane, the later census returns showing Lawrence Boyd Faulkner as the grandson of Jane Chapel nee Chamberlain strongly suggests that Mary Ann was the illegitimate daughter of Jane. ________________________________________________________________________ ________ Grandparents Generation ________________________________________________________________________ ________ 4. I'd be happy to see if I can link your family and the family above given enough info to get your ancestry back before 1901 -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of family Sent: 12 December 2006 10:54 To: Canal-List Subject: [canals-list] Genealogy: LB Faulkner My brother is 'doing' our family tree and while browsing through my copy of 'Colours of the Cut' realised there was a company on the Grand Union with our name, Faulkner. He has made some family links in the Kennet & Avon, Thames and Grand Union environs and wonders if there is any link, however tenuous, between us and them. Has anyone any information about L B Faulkner and his origins, rather than about the boats or the company? Thanks, Brenda Megapixie, nee Faulkner.
