The Erie Barge Canal had at least 30 Boats that shuttled Fuel oil from 
Buffalo and the Hudson to variues Oil Depots on the barge canal. 
Theere was even something like a Canal ship that was like Self-
propelled ship/barge that did not need a tug. The Montanace Western 
New England States and the Envirental reglations make it hard to build 
a pipe line and to push oil up a hill can take more energy then puting 
it on barge. The Service ended when the railroads came up with Unit 
Trains and interconneted tank trains
