It sounds like an excellent idea to me.  What it really needs is someone
with the energy, time and other resources to set up something - write
some standard formats, agree some rules on further sharing of data (I'd
do something like putting it under the GNU Free Documentation Licence
myself as anything else is likely to involve paying more money to
lawyers than could be earned!) etc.

I do this for fun, in my - limited - spare time.  This sort of business
and organisation isn't want I want to do for fun - I do too much of it
the rest of the time.

But I'd enthusiastically join in, suggest ideas, share data etc.

What would be really nice would just be a standardised query interface.
So anyone can ask any of the sites "what do you know about Braunston"
and get XML or similar formatted and tagged data back to display as they
want.
