I know what you mean Graham, I took a [self-confessed] rusty HNA steerer for
an assessment run on Friday up to Tesco @ Rickmansworth & back to Coppermill.
The return journey was in baking sunshine as I remarked to one boat owner
sunbathing above Stocker's!
, 2 hours (ish) to
Winkwell or 4 hours (ish) to Hemel Hempstead.

I took my girlfriend Sheila [by car] to sample the delights of "The Anchor" @
Bourne End yesterday then after a splendid roast Sunday lunch we negotiated our
way past Jannock & Parglena on a very wet towpath {The owner of 'Lady Eleanor'
below 'your lock' told us that the sequence of paddles of locks above your
mooring were out of kilter hence the Niagara Falls over 'your lock' } (
Incidentally, I first knew 'Lady Eleanor' as "The Lord Harry" on the River
Avon) down to The Three Horseshoes [no, I didn't go in!!!!:-))] & back to the
car via "The White Horse." Two very different pubs next door to one another &
both infinitely better than "The Three Horseshoes"
Despite being a seasoned boater, it's still hard to believe
that it takes you 2 hours[ish] to get as far as the electric swing bridge when
it took us roughly 15-20 mins. to walk!
I'm all for this global warming if it makes February so
pleasant!
Cheers
Barry.
