Our TINY does an hour to the litre which gives us about 2.25 to 2.75 mph in
flat, shallow canal water like the Shroppie above Nantwich. Going downstream on
rivers (and the Llangollen) depends on the speed of water movement so meaning
we get more mph (sometimes much more!) but the litre per hour still about seems
the same. Upstream we have to wind the engine up if there is a flow (and there
is always one on the Llangollen - especially through the tunnels and bridge
holes) so the fuel used increases to about a gallon in 3-4 hours. Just from
this you see how complicated measuring can be!

In our case we tend to average a bit over a gallon a day - say 5 to 7
litres - as we don't travel too far or fast!.

Hi,

Just some thoughts while we are talking about Car Tax as this is I believe is
based upon the fuel consumption or perhaps more correctly on the emissions and
linking this to the possible phasing out of Red Diesel, I thought it would be
interesting to know what individual boats MPG are, but like everything I am
sure this is not straight forward, What would be the best and most equitable
way to measure a boats MPG any ideas.
