DaveD Its nice to meet such a fellow cynic. Here we are being encouraged to be philanthropic, to go out of our way to recycle, go green and accept pollution/usage based taxation and we are being exploited at every turn if not by Government selling a new tax as a caring green alternative with no hint of ring fencing the funds for regeneration of the planet. On the other hand we have Private Companies the Government encourages to turn a hefty profit and screw us even more.
Isn't it a pure waste of resources and not exactly environmentally friendly to truck lorry loads of turkey half way across Europe only to bring it to the location of some 160,000 plus similar live turkeys! Just how many turkeys do we need. Foot and Mouth was spread so fast as they trucked pigs from Sedgefield to Warley Essex to be slaughtered for export to German Sausage makers ! Made my blood boil today to hear that my local PCT has just secured lottery funding for a counselling scheme for obesity in children. Now forgive me for being stupid but don't we pay taxes towards a National Heath Service and isn't it a requirement of Central Government to provide this funding. I seem to recall that we were once assured such moneys couldn't be siphoned off towards state expenditure. I am sorry until the Governments of the world act in a joined up thought out manner anything I do is a pin prick on the Ozone and is less use than a sticking plaster to someone having a heart attack. I do my bit! I waste (good word) my time sorting bottles, tins, paper, cardboard, textiles, garden waste and more. Free, unpaid and if I don't do it I will get fined soon as well! Trevor
