I hate to spoil a good rant, but BW did well in the early to middle
period of this government (not including lottery funding) - dealing
with much of the maintenance backlog for example was hardly glamorous,
but also not very cheap.

Part of the problem is that the current cuts are being made to a bigger network.

That's not to let them off the hook for current cuts or policies, but
the waterways community is more likely to be effective if it doesn't
approach decision makers on the basis that nothing they have ever done
has been any good (hard as that may be with the current minister!).
