Hi all, One of the things I love about living on the river is the variety of life that floats down on the water and trudges along the towpath.....
I was working on our widebeam boat last night when, I spotted two identically dressed guys standing outside pointing at various boats and taking notes, so i asked them what was wrong. I expected them to be BW or local officials but they turned out to be customs and excise people looking for a boat. When i asked if Newbury has its own borders and if smuggling was a problem between berks and wilts they said it was not the boat but the person on the boat that they were after and had he moored here? (Hmm no humour in C&E then.) We decided that if he was laying low he'd probably be a bit further out of town. It was decided that they'd walk along a bit more to see if he was about and asked if the canal went much further? All the way to Bristol i said! Looking at each other and then their watches, They went back to their car. Guess their dinners were more interesting than a rather long than walk! lee wells [EMAIL PROTECTED] Trust the boater but not his plank.
