...by daring to ask to go down to Dublin in a day, spend half a day there
then come back again?
We did not dare mention to them that in the evening after coming up from
Dublin we popped up and down the Naas Branch (5 locks that have probably not
been used for well over a year, bring your own paddles and should be
declared the Irish equivilent of a SSSI)
Seeing as WE count double locks as two, we managed 30 Grand Canal locks in a
day (13.5 hours...is this a record?)

Waterways Ireland's response was to issue a dreaded "Marine
Notice"..certainly not the result of vandalisim.

A lot of the locals are very miffed about this notice, but at least WI now
knows that the Grand Canal DOES go beyond Hazelhatch....To be fair most of
the WI staff we have met on the Grand Canal have been friendly (some TOO
friendly, as they have not seen a boat for months) and helpful. One locky
stalked us (in his little blue WI van) along his patch, so that he could
pounce on us at his first lock!

When we stopped in Lowtown (the ONLY place to get Diesel on the Shannon and
Dublin Lines of the Grand Canal), the Welsh bloke that served us finally
clued up this THIS was the dreaded "Tuesdaynightclub" boat :-)
