Going back to the original subject of Customs and Excise well inland on the 
cut. Does anyone know if a large sign is still on the Ouse well up towards 
Bedford? This (then new looking sign) informed those entering Britain that 
animals must be quarantined and all boats must have a customs inspection if 
arriving from abroad. One wonders who the sign was for  as  it was  a good 
number of miles and locks inland from the sea.
