On the quiet? I think the debate about this sale has been almost
deafening. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the local
authority has stated that any permitted redevelopment of this site
must include retention of the building in a boating-related use?
Sounds to me as if this system works rather well.

Ah, now I see. It's OK for a local authority, which is the body
supposed to do this, not to do the heritage protection job properly,
but it isn't OK for BW, which is supposed to be a navigation
authority. <puzzled>

All the more reason for you to support BW's selling them, then?

Then you will be glad to hear that it does. BW is notified of all
applications for development along the waterways, specifically to
allow it to comment about the affect of the proposal on the waterway.

I wish!

I can't win. If I criticise an action (or inaction) of BW's, which I
have never accused of being shy of doing when I felt it deserved, I
get tagged as "negative". If I support one, I get accused of being an
apologist.

So, as Ricky Nelson sang, I'll just please myself.

In this case, I think moving to auctions for vacant moorings is a very
good idea, almost essential actually, for boaters and for the
waterways as a whole. I see a number of potentially-damaging negative
statements being made about the initiative, many based on inaccurate
information or misunderstanding about the topic. Putting these two
things together, I am motivated to explain why I'm in favour of
auctions, to try to get the idea a fair shake.

PS BW may email me for my BACS number if it wishes to make a deposit.
