Thanks everyone for your help. I took the plunge and got one from 
T-mobile in Rugby this morning. Seems like a very good deal indeed. 
It's a bit more Windoze friendly than Mac, in that you have to load 
drivers from a CD for the Mac, and there's less info about the modem 
itself, but having said that, it was *very* straightforward. GBP29 pcm, 
with a free modem for an 18 month contract. The modem is in fact the 
Huawei E220 HSPDA beast that Voda also sell.

I'm presently getting between 60 and 90 kbps here at Newbold at 
lunchtime, but time will tell if it gets any better than this in other 
locations. The modem comes with a choice of long or short USB cable, so 
have used the long one and stuck the modem in the porthole over the 
desk, thereby avoinding having to unplug the voice phone from the BPC 
aerila.

Thanks again all - more info about long term use on the blog over the 
next few weeks.
