The Inland Waterways Association (IWA) today welcomed the appointment of the new Minister for the Waterways, Jonathan Shaw, MP for Chatham & Aylesford. This announcement signals the almost complete change in Ministerial posts at DEFRA, and as such the Association hopes that that this will create an opportunity to resolve many of the problems which have arisen in the last fifteen months. Speaking about the appointment, John Fletcher IWA national chairman said; "A new page has been turned in the chapter of what has mostly been a very productive chapter of relationships with Government over several years and which has led to the many benefits for all from the waterways post-millennium. We look forward to working with Jonathan Shaw and the navigation authorities to work out how a sustainable and productive future for the inland waterways can be achieved." Clive
