I agree with Bob on this. There is no clear "right answer" to what 
should have happened on that day, but, from what you say, it sounds as 
if it might have been fairly sensible to turn the lock in the 
circumstances.

There will be many little incidents that can occur when you are boating 
which have the potential to niggle you. In some cases, another person 
may be 100% in the wrong. But, as Bob says, don't let such things bother 
you for more than a couple of minutes. Just take a deep breath, press 
"delete" and carry on having a relaxed and enjoyable time on the water!
