I think you probably do need to get further about. On the last but one weekend we bought Fulbourne back from the Middle Levels to the GU main line via the River Nene. In three days boating I doubt if we passed twenty boats, didn't queue for or have to share for a single lock or have to wait for any boat coming down the locks.
