Hi folks,
I've come across a narrow boat with an aluminium hull and superstructure, after initially believing that the options were only fibreglass or iron and, perhaps steel. Are there any specific 'pro's and 'con's regarding aluminium? My first thoughts were negative, mainly concerning corrosion, especially on the hull if the surface protection was damaged; I do appreciate there are, and I have come across, plenty of aluminium hulls - but mostly in more lightweight classes of hulls, which I note have survived for decades with little maintenance. I also suspect that there may be other, more specific, problems with electrolytic action (although I'm not sure what these are likely to be); are they, in your opinions, generally an option to look for - or avoid?
