It also possibly depends on what you mean by 'the system'. If you include all the backwaters and headwaters of rivers that you can legally navigate from the main network (for example all those side streams off the Thames), I'm sure you'll eventually come up against a bridge that won't fit anything bigger than a skiff or a canoe, but could still be described as 'part of the system'. I would think that bridge 36 > on the T &M would qualify as the narrowest. ...although there are several considerably lower ones on the main canal network - on the Basingstoke for example. Martin L
