As I pointed out earlier in this thread, the Foxton side ponds *do*
save water (compared to the amount that would be used if the flight
did not have them).  

However, the use of the side ponds cannot be avoided when passing
through the Foxton locks, whereas a single lock with a side pond can
usually be passed through without using the side pond.  In both cases,
the device in question is a side pond - they are just different types.
But neither is a side pound, because neither is a pound at all..
