Thanks for the suggestion Roger, in fact there is a short piece of clear  
plastic pipe after the pump and before the copper pipe that takes the supply 
on  to the accumulator, so I can check this quite easily and will do so next 
week  when I go to the boat. What I have noticed is that for a number of 
years there  has been a small pocket of air at the top of the clear plastic 
filter  housing that is screwed on to the pump inlet at the same level as the 
pump,  this 'bubble' stays constant, pump on or off, is that a problem 
perhaps? 
I did not mention that the pump and accumulator are about 30 feet apart and 
 I know that it is advisable to have them adjacent when space permits. 
There  isn't room to relocate the accumulator, but I could possibly move the 
pump to  under the sink next to the accumulator.
